Thing 23

Special thanks to NEFLIN staff (Stephanie, Brad, Patty and Jennifer) who work so hard to make sure the librarians in this area stay up to date with library information as well as technology through websites. Your work is greatly appreciated by all of us. It is training like this that keeps librarians informed of the most recent changes in the library world without you all doing all that you do some of us would not have a clue about library changes. Keep up the good work. I will be looking forward to another online training like The 23 Things

Congratulations! You have completed Thing 23! We hope you have enjoyed the process and will continue to learn about and use technology in your personal and professional life.

Thing 22

I have learned a lot and I will continue to access the various websites offered through the 23 things. I am hoping that when we upgrade our computers we will be able to access more of the online videos and websites that we weren’t able to access properly. Thank you for sharing this information with the Putnam County Library System.

Thing 21

This I can see being very beneficial to honor students in high school or college. Due to the fact that we are very close to the community college I could see the staff learning to use it properly to share the information with these students. I would like to see a site like this one geared for businesses.

Thing 20

I have to agree that the younger generation seems to be geared more towards technology than the middle age or older generations are. I personally have a connection to holding a book in my hands and reading, computers aren’t always guaranteed to work, but once I have the book, I have it until I return it. Online reading is a resource for sharing as well as learning what other alternative are available if your local library doesn’t have a particular book. I think online reading is a great way to introduce children to the various styles of reading programs available online to assist them with their reading. It is also a great tool for patrons that are illiterate that want to learn to read. Reading online has so much to offer to anyone whom has an interest in reading.

Thing 19

The social networking websites listed here are interesting. This list of websites has something on every subject area of interest for everyone. There is so much that we could offer to the patron now that we now have the knowledge of the websites. I can see the patrons, as well as, the staff sharing and learning from the websites listed under library thing 19. I am going to make it one of my priorities to get with co-workers and make a list of the various sites that our patrons and staff can benefit the most from.

. I’ve enjoyed visiting the various websites and will continue to learn as much as I can about them and share the information with patron and staff. I think introducing some of these websites to the managers at the managers monthly would be a great asset to our system.

Thing 18

I think Facebook and Myspace is a great resource e when used for the right purpose. I like that fact that it is can be used to tutor or instruct students, due to so many people loosing their jobs and going back to school. It’s great also in the fact that they offer so much more than people use them for. Just think what it would be like if every thing that it offers was used. What a wealth of information and knowledge would be made available to the world. I would like to see the Putnam County Library System at some point use it to share what they are doing with the surrounding counties.

Thing 17

Podcast is very interesting. This I can see myself learning how to use for work and staff training. I watch the http://www.commoncraft.com/podcasting video and found it very interesting. I like that fact that you can connect to world and communicate with people or things of your interest. What a great resource for sharing that which you have learned with so many people. I found that Podcast has more to offer than I ever imagined. I will be using Podcast
